January Jones was one of the few who brought her A-game in Prabal Gurung. The cut and bold color choice is reminiscent of the mermaid Versace gown she wore to the 2010 Emmys.
Maybe it was the fact that the Emmy Awards were held on a Monday this year but this evening’s red carpet offered very few winning looks in our humble opinion. Missing was the element of stand out glamour that’s expected of events like this. Instead, so many played it safe and those that stepped out of the box unfortunately got it horribly wrong. We’ve broken down our picks for best, runner up and not so great looks of the night.
Top 5…

Zooey Deschanel’s hot pink column Oscar de la Renta number was glamorous, chic and complimented her love of all things retro.

Julianna Margulies is to Narciso Rodriguez as Renee Zellweger is to Carolina Herrera. As the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Not quite there…

Julia Roberts looked cute in this Elie Saab mini but we would have loved to see her in some gorgeous color.

Julie Bowen’s key hole halter would have been more appropriate at an end of the summer soiree than the Emmy Awards.

Robin Wright also looked chic in a minimalist Ralph Lauren jumpsuit but unfortunately both her hair and makeup took away from the look she was going for.

Claire Danes opted for a beautiful Givenchy dress that had so much potential but the fit threw us off. We’re not sure whether to cinch that belt a little tighter or take it off completely.

Another dress whose fit missed the mark was Kerry Washington’s Prada number. This just reminds us that tailoring is everything.
Completely missed the mark…

It looks like Christmas came early for Christina Hendricks and that’s not a good thing. The actress missed the mark with this wrinkled and embellished taffeta number.

We love that Sarah Paulson often opts for a little whimsy but this dress was a little too “Halloween” for our taste.
