2013 Academy Awards – Understated elegance was the message of the night
The awards season is finally coming to an end with the 2013 Oscars closing things out this evening at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. As usual, we have all the style moments from the night’s red carpet. We started the awards season with a lot of black and continued on with a ton of navy blue. This evening, the nude and light colors trend that we saw at the Golden Globes continued to make a strong showing. In fact, if there was a common theme on film’s biggest night, it was understated elegance. From Charlize Theron’s white peplum Dior gown to Anne Hathaway’s baby pink Prada and golden girl Jennifer Lawrence’s light pink Dior ball gown, the message was clear — less is more. Let’s note however that while some stars decided to go “light” with their looks, there was also a huge surge in embellished and embroidered gowns (although not all of them worked). Catherine Zeta-Jones, Amanda Seyfried and Kirsten Stewart went with full length embroidered gowns while Kerry Washington and Zoe Saldana opted for embroidered busts. This year’s red carpet unfortunately didn’t provide very many “wow” moments. Check out our full breakdown of the night’s trends plus best and worst looks below.
