If you haven’t heard of Havaianas, you’ve probably encountered their famous flip flops somewhere, on someone. The brand has been around for quite sometime, since 1962 to be exact and have developed quite a following. The first pair of Havaianas was inspired by the Zori, typical Japanese sandals made of fabric straps and rice straw soles. Though designs have changed over the years, the brand has retained one feature, the foot-bed of all Havaianas have a textured rice pattern, an homage to the first pair.

Another thing that hasn’t changed is the strong relationship between Havaianas and its fans and followers. Reinforcing the brand’s stylish and easygoing attitude, Havaianas spent the summer throwing a series of secret midnight swim parties in Los Angeles. The first event kicked off at Hollywood stars, Courtney Cox and David Arquette’s stunning house. The second, held in Beverly Hills, was attended by Jack Osborne, Nikki Hilton, and Elijah Wood among others. At the latest event, partygoers spotted celebrities Mekhi Phifer, Brothers & Sisters’ Luke Grimes, and Rick Malambri of Step Up 3D fame to name a few.

Although Havaianas initially planned a limited number of exclusive parties this summer, it has gained a large following and this has encouraged the company to open it up to its fans as the Midnight Swim Club. Fans can host their own Midnight Swim Party and post a picture on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Havaianas) or Twitter (http://twitter.com/havaianas; tagged #midnightswimclub). Each week, the best photo will be announced and the fan or follower will receive a limited edition pair of Havaianas Midnight Swim Club flip-flops, which is the only place the flip-flops are available.

I got my first pair of Havaianas bedazzled at the most recent secret midnight swim party in Hancock Park and after a few days of wearing them, I can say that I’m hooked.
