This evening marked the official start of awards season. Once again, actors, directors, producers and writers gathered at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills to celebrate the best in film and television over the past year.
Pre-ceremony, the stars lined the red carpet to show off their Couture best and as usual, there were hits and there were misses. This year, we thought we’d do things a little differently and instead of just breaking down the best and worst looks of the evening, we’ve decided to give out our own awards to the most interesting looks of the night.
With all eyes on them, it’s understandable that most stars want to play it safe on the red carpet, lest they end up on a worst dressed list. That being said, it’s always good to remember that fashion is supposed to be fun, liberating and even sometimes unexpected. It is afterall a form of expression –yours, not your stylist’s.
The award for the night’s most unexpected fashion moment goes to…

Emma Stone skipped the traditional gown and went for a Lanvin jumpsuit instead. To add some unexpected length, she finished off her look with a long belt and attached bow.
For the best use of texture, we couldn’t get enough of the three gorgeous ladies below…

Julianne Moore takes risks with her roles and fashion. She stepped out of the box again in this custom Givenchy gown with a sequin, feather and ombré effect.
This year’s best metallic moment goes to…

Jessica Chastain looked stunning in this bronze Atelier Versace halter with plunging neckline. We love seeing her pick colors that play off her alabaster skin and gorgeous red hair.
Best use of volume…

The dress, the hair, the bling. La Lopez brought the glamour in this Zuhair Murad dress which the designer described as an “art deco inspired beaded sheer caftan”.
Best red moment…

In a sea of red gowns, Heidi Klum stood out as a siren in head to toe red. We also loved the retro waves and matching red lips.
Unexpected color moment…

Jenna Dewan’s mellow yellow Carolina Herrera gown was a sweet and unexpected delight in the midst of so much red and sparkle.
White hot moment…

There’s nothing like a white moment on the red carpet. The honor this year goes to the gorgeous Emily Blunt who looked elegant in a Grecian inspired white Michael Kors gown with cut-out details.
Grown and sexy moment…

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Kate Hudson has found a niche and it is white, low cut and hugs every curve of her body.
This year’s award for understated elegance goes to…

Another lady that knows what works on her is Reese Witherspoon. In spite of its simple silhouette, the star sparkled in her understated but glamourous Calvin Klein Collection gown.
The most interesting length award goes to…

We’re seeing more and more of this over the ankle length on the runways and red carpet. We love that Kerry Washington tried something new with this color blocked number but it unfortunately overwhelmed her petite frame.
Last but not least, the red carpet wouldn’t be complete without a Princess moment…

After playing Peter Pan, Allison Williams was ready to go back to being a girl. She sported a tiered, red Armani Privé number.

Anna Kendrick channeled her Cinderella character and opted for a princess moment as well. The Into The Woods actress went with a blush, tulle Monique Lhuillier gown.
