Fashion’s biggest night arrived to much fanfare again this evening. Stars from the music, fashion, television and movie realms fetted New York’s famous Metropolitan Museum of Art. The theme for this year? “China: Through the Looking Glass.” Every year, many stars adhere to the rules while others eschew them completely. This year was no different. Our thoughts on the topic are “why show up to a costume party dressed as yourself?” It’s no fun at all!
That being said, we’re focusing on the most interesting, intriguing and fun looks from tonight’s gala. These gals not only came to have fun but they were right on trend. Here are their interesting takes on how Chinese aesthetics have influenced western fashion.

Amal Clooney in a red custom Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano corset top and tiered skirt.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen also played with volume and texture in their Galliano looks. We even love Ashley’s half up top knot.

Lady Gaga is used to elaborate pieces of couture. The singer looked relatively tame in this black and white look.

Kate Mara looked elegant in this white dress with a high collar, plunging neckline and floral embellished skirt.
