The stars were out in full force showing the power of the perfect fashion accessory at the 2009 Oscars. From the use of belts to provide a twist on couture gowns to cocktail rings, stacked bangles, bold necklaces and gorgeous earrings, the night’s fashion pieces definitely kept many on the edge of their seats. As usual, we’re not only going to dissect our favorite looks but we’re going to show you how to get similar pieces for less and most importantly show you how you can incorporate many of them into your daily wardrobe. Who says you can’t bring the glam into your everyday life?
Belts
Belts were definitely a nice surprise this year. Even with the aura of “Old Hollywood Glamour” circulating, the idea of adding a belt to a dress no matter how fancy gives it a “modern” twist. Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker proves this point in a gorgeous Dior gown . Last year’s Best Actress winner Marion Cotillard also went with Dior and cinched away with a black patent leather belt. Lastly, Miley Cyrus’ unique layered Zuhair Murad gown also gets on board with a pearl accented belt.
Try the chic belts below from Rue de Chic to cinch your favorite dress, coat or pencil skirt.
Cocktail Rings
Everyone who was anticipating that the Oscars would be more subdued this year definitely was in for a pleasant surprise. The stars came with the bling and dare I say, they did not disappoint. The cocktail ring has always been known to draw immediate attention to it’s wearer due to it’s size and it’s fashionable flair. Even with an understated outfit (see Angelina Jolie), the cocktail ring which is best worn on the index finger never fails to turn up the heat. My favorite this year was Angelina Jolie’s beautiful and sizable emerald ring (we’ll leave the gorgeous earrings for later). Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive, Halle Berry in Marchesa and Beyonce in House of Dereon also join in the ring fest.

Bangles
We didn’t see too many bracelets or bangles this year but that’s exactly why Heidi Klum stood out. Her deconstructed dress was accessorized with a stack of mixed bangles.
Take your pick of these chunky bangles from Rue de Chic. Layer them or wear them as singles…either way, you’re going to look fabulous!
Necklaces
Here at Rue de Chic, we’re big believers in going big or going home. Two stars that went big and bold with accessories this year were Amy Adams in a ruby red Carolina Herrera and a Chunky Beaded Fred Leighton Necklace and Best Supporting Actress Nominee Taraji P. Henson in Roberto Cavalli and an ornate diamond necklace also from Fred Leighton.
These bold necklaces are definitely not for the weak at heart. They can be dressed up or toned down with a more casual outfit. Try pairing the “Christina” 3 Strand Necklace from Rue de Chic below with a white tee, jeans, pumps (try black or red) and a black blazer.
And the best accessory award goes to……
Angelina Jolie had my vote for the best use of accessories at the Oscars. Accessories are meant to enhance ensembles…they can make or break an outfit and Angelina’s Lorraine Schwartz emerald earrings and matching cocktail ring definitely enhanced her simple but sophisticated black Elie Saab gown and her natural beauty!
