This past spring, I was delighted to discover that the luxury and legendary brand, BVLGARI, had not only been making a statement in the world of fashion but in the hotel and resort world as well. The brand continues to push the boundaries of what it means to be fashion forward with its latest collaboration with Ukranian artist, Oksana Levchenya-Konstantinovska.

Fashion has always had an interesting relationship with technology, so much so that this year’s Met Gala theme, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” couldn’t have occurred at a better time to explore more of that relationship. Adapting and adjusting while thinking and moving forward without losing the creative soul is what continuously propels fashion into new heights. Oksana Lechenya-Konstantinovska studied medicine in Bogomolets National Medical University and creates works on the verge of science and art in her artistic practice.

This collaboration with BVLGARI merged the technology of virtual reality and artwork based on the microscopic images of the organism while the main focus resides in the majesty of the biological structures and the beauty of the jewelry. The creation process is divided into several phases: first, using the images taken by an electronic microscope with the zoom of 100 and 40 times, the artist created a series of works on canvas. The works were then transposed into virtual reality format by a team of Ukrainian programmers from the company Verum Visum.

The focus here overall is the symbioses of the internal and the external, the beauty and the blueprint behind that beauty and the ability to create using the same aesthetic code. Enveloping the audience by this work of fact and fiction, engulfing them into a fantasy while allowing them to remain a reality.
