“Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama” 2010 has already made waves in Minneapolis and Chicago. The show is set to bring the highest level of glamor to a city that knows no shortage of style and fashion on Thursday, September 16 at 8 PM at the Orpheum Theatre.
This year is all about Fashion, Fantasy, Music and Magic but most importantly, this event will be benefiting some amazing charities. Local organizations AIDS Project Los Angeles and Project Angel Food are on the receiving end of this event. In a time when many charitable organizations have been hit hard because of the economy, this kind of help goes a long way. Executive Director of APLA, Craig Thompson notes the rise in the number of HIV/AIDS infections per day and knows he must continue to push his organization to fight the good fight of HIV prevention and slow those numbers down through awareness. Peter Gurski of Project Angel Food echoes this sentiment. His organization not only delivers meals to people affected with HIV/AIDS, they reach out to other terminally ill patients including Cancer patients and their families as well. They have served 7 million meals and counting since launching.
The HIV/AIDS cause is the heart of this event for Macy’s and the production team is putting its best foot forward. Macy’s VP of Special Productions, Mike Gansmoe promises “Fashion Theater” for all those attending. “The show will be a magical experience of high fashion set against a multidimensional theatrical production with surprises at every turn, introducing 3-D holographic effects, elements of flight, visual vistas and the newest technology by Kinect™ by Xbox 360®, all set against a larger-than-life LED video wall.”
Setting the Stage for the Glamorama Event
Grammy award-winning singer Macy Gray and singer/song-writer Eric Hutchinson will be hitting the stage. In true Macy’s fashion, the runway will feature collections from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Just Cavalli, Calvin Klein, INC and Tracy Reese. The Material Girl collection – a line exclusive to Macy’s designed by Madonna and her teenage daughter Lola will also be featured. LA’s own Brian Friedman, choreographer/judge on “So You Think You Can Dance?” is choreographing the dance segments for the show.
The event pulls out all the stops for the planned after party. Macy’s Culinary Council Chefs Cat Cora (the only female “Iron Chef”), Marcus Samuelsson ( of soon to open Red Rooster in NYC), and Nancy Silverton (of Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza in LA) will be on hand showcasing the menu they created.
It’s no easy feat putting together an event of such magnitude. Producer, Mike Gansmoe credits his amazing “creative village” for making it happen. It also helps that the whole team is motivated by such an amazing cause.
