2 stars, one look, who wore it best? This week, an Oscar nominee goes head to head with an it “girl”. The item of clothing in the middle of this style battle is an incredibly dramatic Giambattista Valli number. The top is reminiscent of a retro diner uniform and the bottom is a pink ombre skirt complete with a million tiers. So who wore it best?

Girls star Lena Dunham attended the 2014 Emmy Awards in Giambattista Valli Couture.

When Lena Dunham showed up in this pink confection just a few months ago at the 2014 Emmy Awards, there was a major uproar about the gown being a horrible choice. Many memes followed putting the actress next to everything from wedding cakes  to the model who actually wore the original creation on the runway.

Let’s get one thing straight, Couture is incredibly subjective. It is meant to be quite dramatic. It is art, which means not everyone is going to agree on its interpretation. We did give Ms. Dunham some serious props for stepping out of the box and for being willing to try something that most actresses wouldn’t bet their red carpet cred on.

That being said, the recent Vanity Fair spread of Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike really showed us how we prefer to see this look –perfectly posed. There are some clothes that look great on the runway and on the red while others shine while standing still. The latter seems to be the case for this number. Rosamund Pike wins.
